Visiting a Shrine: The Basic Ritual<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Purify hands and mouth at the water basin<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Place an offering (coin)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ring the bell (if present)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bow twice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clap twice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make a silent prayer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bow once more<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25b2 The \u201cTwo bows, two claps, one bow\u201d ritual performed at Shinto shrines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Visiting a Temple: The Basic Ritual<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Purify yourself (if basin is available)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Place an offering<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do not ring bells unless instructed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Join hands and pray silently<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bow once to finish<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>\u25b2 At temples, clapping is not done.
