According to tradition, Heitate Jingu was founded by Takeiwatatsu-no-Mikoto, the grandson of Emperor Jinmu.

Some believe this shrine to be a place where divine descent (Tenson kōrin) occurred, making it one of Japan’s oldest and most sacred places.
